Flange Gaskets

Die Cut Flange GasketsFlange gaskets are one of the most common types of gaskets. Typically, they are applied as sealants on various surfaces. For example, a flange gasket is placed between a pair of pipe sections to create a seal and prevent leaks in the piping system.

Custom Gasket Mfg. specializes in precision, die cut custom, and standard flange gaskets. We have ½” to 48″ tooling on hand for cutting and pressure-rated materials in 150#, 300#, and 600# for ring or full-face flange gaskets.

Different Types of Flange Gaskets

Custom Gasket Mfg. makes different types of flange gaskets, including full-face, corrugated, ring, spiral wound, and pipe flange gaskets.

Full-Face Gasket

The full-face gasket can cover the entire face of the flange surface. This type has the exact outer diameter measurement as the flange and the holes for securing pre-cut bolts into the gasket.

Pipe Flange Gasket

Pipe flange gaskets improve joint performance and are superior to conventional full-face and ring gaskets. These are also useful for large-diameter flange piping and long-span pipe installations.

Corrugated Flange Gasket

Corrugated flange gaskets are products of galvanized iron or steel in a grooved pattern. They are cut and shaped to fit the flanged surface of a pipe.

Ring Flange Gasket

Ring flange gaskets are well-suited for high-pressure applications. This type consists of solid metal rings shaped differently — round, oval, and octagonal.

Spiral Wound Flange Gasket

The spiral wound flange gasket features spiral ridges and is used in oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, chemical, and power industries.

Different Flange Gasket Materials

Various flange gasket materials are available, depending on the application’s requirements. Listed in the following sections are the materials we use at Custom Gasket Mfg. to make high-quality flange gaskets.

Rubber Materials

Rubber flange gaskets are common because rubber comes in different formulations and grades, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.

  • Butyl
  • Cloth-inserted
  • Conductive silicone
  • Diaphragm
  • EPDM
  • EPDM nylon inserted
  • Peroxide cure EPDM
  • FDA-approved
  • Fluorosilicone
  • Hypalon®
  • Latex
  • Natural (gum) rubber
  • Neoprene®
  • Neoprene nylon inserted
  • Nitrile
  • Polyurethane
  • Santoprene®
  • SBR
  • Thermoplastic rubber
  • Urethane
  • Viton®, fluorocarbon

Compressed Non-Asbestos Materials

Compressed non-asbestos materials consist of non-asbestos fibers combined with rubber for better temperature and pressure performance.

  • Frenzelit® Novapress
  • Thermoseal®
  • Garlock® Blue-Gard
  • Durlon®
  • Teadit®

Cork Materials

Cork features high compressibility and flexibility. Combined with rubber, these gaskets become resistant to fuels, oils, and solvents.

  • Composition cork
  • Cork/synthetic rubber
  • Cork/EPDM blend
  • Cork/Hypalon® blend
  • Cork/neoprene blend
  • Cork/nitrile blend
  • Cork/silicone blend
  • Cork/Viton® blend

Electrical Insulation Materials

Gaskets with insulation materials feature little to no electrical conductivity and are thus safe for several electrical applications.

  • Nomex®
  • Lexan® polycarbonate
  • Mylar®
  • Fish paper
  • Kapton® polyimide film
  • Formex®
  • Statex®
  • Hitex
  • VHR-115®
  • E-FR®
  • Phenolics (CE, LE, G10/FR4®)
  • Valox®
  • Vulcanized fiber

Fiber Materials

Fiber is also a common material for making flange gaskets. This includes fiber-based materials, such as cellulose, insulating, vegetable, and synthetic fiber.

  • Cellulose fiber beater ad
  • Cellulose/synthetic rubber beater ad
  • Cellulose/nitrile rubber beater ad
  • Bucote®
  • Cellulose fiberboard
  • Cellulose fiber paper
  • Compressed fiber sheet
  • Fish paper
  • Lexide
  • Nicote®
  • Non-asbestos NBR aramid fiber
  • Vegetable fiber (Detroiter)
  • Velbuna®
  • Velcar B-10®
  • Vellumoid®
  • Vellutherm®
  • Victopac®
  • Vulcanized fiber

Foam Materials

Some examples of foam materials used for making gaskets include Neoprene foam, filter foam, closed-cell EVA foam, polyester foam, polyurethane foam, and polyether foam. These are formed by trapping gas within interconnected or separate cells inside a solid or a liquid.

  • Closed-cell EVA foam
  • Filter foam
  • Neoprene foam
  • Microcellular urethane foam
  • Multi-planar EMI foam
  • Convoluted egg-crate foam
  • Polyester foam
  • Polyether foam
  • Polyurethane foam
  • Polyethylene foam
  • Polystyrene foam
  • Cross-linked polyethylene foam
  • Volara®
  • Poron® foam
  • Ensolite® foam
  • Silicone foam

  • Vinyl foam

Felt Materials

Felt is a wool-based material formed by subjecting the fabric to moisture, heat, and pressure.

  • SAE grades
  • Wool felt
  • Polyester felt
  • Sheet felt
  • Acoustic-grade
  • Needled felt
  • Felt wicking
  • Felt stripping
  • Woven wool felt
  • Decorative pure felt

Flexible Graphite Materials

Flexible graphite sheets are also used to make flange gaskets; it consists of mineral graphite with a carbon content of around 95% to 99%.

  • Grafoil®
  • Frenzelit® Novatec
  • Flexitallic® Flexicarb
  • Thermoseal® (Klinger®)
  • Durlon®
