Automotive & EV Precision Sealing Solutions
Custom Gasket Manufacturing delivers precision sealing solutions for both traditional vehicles and next-generation electric vehicles (EVs). In combustion-powered vehicles, our custom gaskets play a critical role in preventing oil, coolant, and combustion gas leaks, supporting efficient compression and emissions control.
As the EV market continues to grow, so too does the demand for thermal management, battery pack sealing, and EMI protection. At Custom Gasket Manufacturing, we use advanced die cutting, extrusion, and other rubber molding processes to produce high-performance gaskets for EV components such as battery housings and electronics enclosures. Our precision assembly methods, combined with expertise in silicone, EPDM, polyurethane, and composite compounds, allow us to deliver gaskets that meet IP68 standards, provide thermal stability, and protect against chemical exposure and electrical interference.
Precision Gaskets for Automotive Systems
Gaskets form essential sealing interfaces within engines, transmissions, and fluid systems. In internal combustion engines, head gaskets seal in combustion gases while preventing oil or coolant from leaking between the cylinder head and engine block. Other seals, such as those used for the intake manifold, camshaft, and valve covers, are designed to seal specific components to maintain performance and minimize fluid leaks.
When gaskets fail, oil and coolant can mix, leading to engine overheating, loss of lubrication, and serious damage. Custom Gasket Manufacturing produces high-temperature, high-pressure seals using precision die-cutting, molded compounds, and multilayer steel or composite materials. Each gasket is engineered to meet ISO and OEM standards, even in extreme operating conditions.
EV Battery Pack Sealing Solutions
Electric vehicle battery packs depend on durable perimeter seals to block moisture, dust, and environmental contaminants. This protection is essential for extending battery life and maintaining safety. These seals are commonly applied using automated cure-in-place (CIPG) or form-in-place (FIPG) methods, which ensure consistent and repeatable bead placement along joints and seams.
The materials used for EV battery pack gaskets include one- or two-component silicones, polyurethanes, and butyl compounds, all chosen for their thermal resilience and ability to meet IP68-rated enclosure requirements. Custom Gasket Manufacturing applies these advanced gasketing technologies and materials to produce reliable battery pack seals that meet EV OEM standards and support large-scale production.
Thermal and EMI Protection in EV Components
Electric vehicles require both effective thermal management and EMI/RFI shielding to maintain safety, reliability, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Thermally conductive elastomeric gaskets, often enhanced with fillers such as boron nitride or graphite, serve as thermal interface materials (TIMs). These materials help dissipate heat in battery modules, providing performance improvements of around 6 °C during fast charging, while maintaining a lightweight profile of approximately 2 g/cm³.
EMI shielding gaskets, typically made from conductive silicone, foam, or wire-mesh composites, are used in enclosures for power electronics, cable assemblies, and sensor housings. They block electromagnetic interference that could disrupt sensitive EV systems, while also offering environmental sealing rated up to IP67. Conductive elastomers, including nickel- and graphite-filled silicones, are designed to meet compression and attenuation requirements in EV applications. Custom Gasket Manufacturing combines thermal and EMI gasket technologies to deliver hybrid solutions that align with EV OEM expectations for quality, safety, and performance.
Materials for Electric Vehicle Applications
Custom Gasket Manufacturing utilizes advanced elastomeric materials designed for EV environments, including:
- Silicone Rubber. Offers excellent chemical resistance, low compression set, and stability in temperatures ranging from -55 °C to 250 °C. Ideal for battery enclosures and external seals.
- EPDM. Resists ozone, UV, weathering, and temperatures ranging from -50 °C to 150 °C. Suitable for serviceable battery packs and outdoor components.
- Polyurethane Foams. Provides dampening properties, UV and moisture protection, and conformability. Rated to UL94 V-0 standards, with premium grades offering intumescent protection against 200° C fire bursts.
- Acrylic Foam and Butyl Rubber. Deliver a good balance of elasticity and moisture resistance, making these materials ideal for perimeter sealing.
